Nicd`: if you just need 1-10, it might be easier to use str_replace(). otherwise preg_replace() with a pattern like [0-9]+\. or something
Nicd`: I don't really know about regex

tobywoby: to be honest i know nothing good about php ;D
tobywoby: i wish there were simple wildcards
tobywoby: like N. representing any number
tobywoby: or something
